Numeron Codex is a unique Post-Series AU, which at present is largely described in notes; while the story is relatively concrete, details are still being hammered out, though the following is at least set in stone.

For the purposes of Numeron Codex, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal is presumed to have taken place at some point in the year 20XX. At the final battle with Don Thousand, the great 'god' of Chaos is finally defeated at the hands of Nasch and Yuuma. Yuuma from there, is forced to then defeat Nasch- but before Astral and Yuuma leave the presence of the Numeron Code as it appears before them, to have the fated duel of canon, Yuuma realizes that as long as chaos exists, history stands a chance of repeating itself. Wishing to spare Astral the burden of repeating his duty again, and for peace among all of the friends he lost, he therefore activates the code before Astral can stop him.

The wish activates- the wish that Astral be allowed a new life. That the three races-Barian, Astral, and Human-live in peace, together, forever. He successfully makes the wish before finding himself painfully stripped down and pulled apart to fulfill the consequences of the wish and replace Astral as the role of the Emissary of those lands, while the others...must move on in a world that abruptly begins to shape itself to his final desires.

In the year 25XX, cities of humans float among the air, with high-speed railways connecting them to the few pockets of safe land below. The Earth is a toxic realm-the land of the 'Dead', quite literally so, where Barians reside separated from the cities by distance and clouds of Astral Lands. Among these cities is 'Shinkyo'.

And within Shinkyo, is the three time World Duel Champion.
