Numeron Codex is a unique Post-Series AU, which at present is largely described in notes; while the story is relatively concrete, details are still being hammered out, though the following is at least set in stone.
For the purposes of Numeron Codex, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal is presumed to have taken place at some point in the year 20XX. At the final battle with Don Thousand, the great 'god' of Chaos is finally defeated at the hands of Nasch and Yuuma. Yuuma from there, is forced to then defeat Nasch- but before Astral and Yuuma leave the presence of the Numeron Code as it appears before them, to have the fated duel of canon, Yuuma realizes that as long as chaos exists, history stands a chance of repeating itself. Wishing to spare Astral the burden of repeating his duty again, and for peace among all of the friends he lost, he therefore activates the code before Astral can stop him.
The wish activates- the wish that Astral be allowed a new life. That the three races-Barian, Astral, and Human-live in peace, together, forever. He successfully makes the wish before finding himself painfully stripped down and pulled apart to fulfill the consequences of the wish and replace Astral as the role of the Emissary of those lands, while the others...must move on in a world that abruptly begins to shape itself to his final desires.
By the year 25XX, the world has settled and been settled into its place for a while. The surface is as the Barian World was; with an associated dull red sun, it bears oceans of acid and an incredibly rocky, crystaline appearance. The air is toxic to humans-breathing it is like breathing acidic gas-and animals left behind on the earth have mutated and adapted quickly. Despite this, many plants remaining on the surface are quite safe for consumption (so are some animals, actually)...and the soil itself is considered impressively fertile.
While the surface itself is toxic, various cities about the world have been constructed as 'Human Friendly' zones, where air is filtered through to be breathable. These cities are linked to each other (as well as mountainous Astral Cities known as 'Cloudtops') using a high-speed train system, and are rather densely populated. Hybrid populations between Barians and humans often reside in these cities, if not in the Human's own.
Astral Beings do not live on the surface of the planet for the most part however; instead they take a middle zone where clouds have collected and grown to such immense density that a human being can walk upon them. These clouds are low-lying, and difficult to see or even travel through at times. Though the lives of the Astral people are no longer a mystery and leave them a far more welcoming people in general, their military forces against those who attack these lands are fierce, described as 'striking a nest of barian wasps'.
While the majority of Cloudland locations on mountains house human, hybrid, and even animal populations, a few locations in the cloudlands themselves also allow for the mixed populous to more minor extent. These regions however only accept certain beings with 'passes' for work purposes however-typically political figures. As the majority of the population resides within the mountains amid humans and occasionally even barians despite clashing energies, this isn't typically considered an issue however. It is notable though, that Astral-Human hybrids (compared to Barian-Human ones) are quite rare. This is due to the fact that Astral beings seem more keenly aware of their lifespan next to humanity on average, and thus prefer to distance themselves from romantic relationships with their species.
Astrals also bear ownership of two undersea cities, connected to the clouds via pillars of energy- these realms are entirely inaccessible to other races, outside of significant reason. A reason that requires Eliphas himself, the 'Overseer' of the Astrals, to approve.
Humans, amid all of this, have been forced to the skies-with the aid of Barian technology, enormous floating cities and reserves were crafted for humans and their wildlife to persist and thrive in. These cities have grown in power and size alike, and require high speed air craft not only to each other but to specified locations on the surface as well. Despite being a realm primarily for humans, the cities of the sky are also often home to Barian-Human Hybrids (With handfuls of Astral-Hybrids occasionally spotted)...and even a small number of Barians themselves in larger cities.
The single 'all races' settlement in Codex is ultimately located within the ice of the North Pole. Forever frozen, the inside is a hive of commerce, and considered a popular resort spot.
In Numeron Codex, the primary location among the skies is 'Shinkyo', a city floating above what was once Heartland City's area. It's considered to be connected to the 'Souhachi' region below the cloudlands, otherwise known as the lands governed by the Barian Gilag. The city itself seems to have connections to families from Heartland as well, such as the Tenjous (from which the Barian Lord Arund once came from)-it is thus not uncommon for visitors such as the Ambassador Nilan of the Barians to come to the city.
Despite 500 years passing, Dueling is still very much a common sport, and if anything considered to be an essential part of culture by many-particularly Barians themselves, who often use it as a method to settle scores to avoid physical altercation. For a Barian, a duel is often a matter of honor, and to win a duel is to win whatever bargain or argument is in place. Dueling in Numeron Codex utilizes a unique Solid Energy format resulting from the combination of Astral and Barian energies, making monsters 'real' (but typically non-interactable outside the use of such things as 'V-Pet' devices). Due to the importance of Dueling, world tournaments exist in all three of the realms-though only the Barian World Tournament accepts entrants from humans in addition to their own, and only the Tournament of Three Suns allows all three races as entrants. The sport utilizes a single 'D-Pad' for deck and cards, resembling those from antiquity. D-Gazers, meanwhile, have since evolved into mere 'Gazers'; multipurpose communicators that can gather varying amounts of information about a person's surroundings, including small maps.
As of the current point in Numeron Codex, the Terrorist Ring known as 'Redshift' was recently taken down. Tensions are still high between the three races, but otherwise simmering down, as a more relaxed search for remaining Numbers Ruins as Numbers locations are called, occurs.
